XP - INSTALLING PROCOMM VERSION 4.8

With this 4.8 version, Symantec modified their installation and placed their
software in a new location and changed the name of the key program
to pw5.exe from pw4.exe and made the default location with 4.8:
                      C:\progra~1\Symantec\procom~1\programs\pw5.exe
                                             -
You will need to insert the word Symantec\   into the C:\WINDOWS\peercomm.ini file
and  change the reference to pw4.exe to pw5.exe... Below are the instructions
to do this:

Installation using default location with Version 4.8:
        Procomm's PW5.exe is placed into
                    C:\Program Files\Promm Plus\programs\
In Dos terminology this is usually reduced to:
                                    C:\progra~1\Symantec\procom~1\programs\pw5.exe
                                    or
                                    (if Procomm was previously installed:
                                    c:\progra~1\Symantec\procom~2\programs\pw5.exe)
The DOS terminology is used by our software to locate the programs and if earlier versions have been installed, the user has to make changes to the setting as shown below.)

Once Procomm has been installed, TIGER needs to know where it is. This can be done in two ways. With a WINDOWS98 or XP machine there should be   a directory named WINDOWS.
In c:\WINDOWS after TIGER has been installed, there should be a file
named PEERCOMM.ini

EDITING THE FILE PEERCOMM.INI
The file named PEERCOMM.ini is the main source for such settings as
where pw4.exe is. This can be examined and edited using a text
editor like WINDOWS NOTEPAD. With the editor open c:\windows\peercomm.ini
find the sixth paragraph: (Procomm Plus)  Note the first line:  It should say:
         ProcommDirectory=c:\progra~1\procom~1 (or procom~2)

The next line should say:
         ProcommScriptDirectory=c:\progra~1\procom~1\aspect (or ...procom~2)

The next line  should say:
         ProcommCommand=\programs\pw5.exe

In the rare case that there is no c:\windows, it
may be that you will need to create a folder named C:\windows
to house the Peercomm.ini file. I am not sure about this.
If you have an XP, see if you can find the file named
peercomm.ini. It may be that it has not been installed
or is placed somewhere else with an XP.

When the PEERCOMM.ini  has been edite and  set up properly, start the TIGER programs.
Click on PEERCOMM. Then click on File at upper left and Program Settings.
First click on the second button: Dial Data and make your entries.
Next click on Enter Access Numbers:   Procomm should open up.
(IMPORTANT:  If it does not, it means that
         (1) you have made a mistake with the PEERCOMM.ini file...
         OR
         (2) you are using a different version of Procomm (version 4.7)
         OR
         (3) you have an XP and may need to create a folder named C:\windows and place the Peercomm.ini file in it).

If the Procomm Connection Directory does open properly after clicking
the Enter Access Numbers,  Click on the grey Telnet Tab in the middle
of the screen.... To the right you should see the Name:
                                 Dial Data Internet
and beneath it the Host/IP Address:
                                 dd.trackdata.com
Then click OK and Close the screen. That will take you back to the 5-button page
entitled Program Settings. Now click on Procomm Version:
Be sure that Version 4 is toggled to on.

Check the setting for Procomm Plus Directory
                             c:\progra~1\symantec\procom~1
and for ProcommPlus Scrpt Path
                             c:\progra~1\symantec\procomm~1\aspect
and for ProcommPlus Filename
                            \programs\pw5.exe
If these do not appear as you have posted them in the
C:\WINDOWS\PEERCOMM.ini file you may make changes here.
However, there is a program error that can occur as you close this
screen and I suggest making directly to Peercomm.ini file.
(The error is an incorrect recommendation to answer "YES".  Instead pick "NO".)
